Custom Trivia categories: Themes & ideas for your next session.

What is the most popular drink in the world that does not have alcohol? How many players are there in a baseball team? Which of the planets is closest to the sun? Trivia is an irresistible opportunity to test one’s intellectual prowess and demonstrate knowledge.

While most people consider trivia a hobby or a playful way to pass idle time, it can be far more than just fun and games. In fact, it can foster the kind of breakthrough social interaction that can take a company from good, to fist-bump-worthy.

A game of trivia pushes users to unleash and capitalise on their full cognitive potential, improve mental performance, and enhance creativity. In fact, research suggests that the engagement and excitement produced by trivia games is directly related to cognitive and brain development.

Our Remote Social Hub features Trivia – among other games such as Bingo, Who Am I?, and Team Taboo.

And guess what?! You can now create your very own Trivia categories and challenge your friends and colleagues in the topics you all love the most.

(P.S. You only need a minimum of 5 questions.)

Stuck for ideas? We’ve got you covered:

#1. Common interests

This can be from a range of topics that you and your team share in common.

Categories include: sports, TV shows, movies, hobbies, or even… coffee!

Example:

How did the term cappuccino originate?

  1. From the habit of the Capuchin friar.
  2. It is the French term for “foam on coffee.”
  3. It is Italian for “frothy coffee drink.”
  4. It was a term invented by a coffee company.

#2. “Get to know…”

This is a great way for smaller teams to learn more about each other!

Each member could create their own category, based on interesting facts the team may/ may not already know about them.

Example:

When Diyanah was 10, she:

  1. Appeared on the cover of a Kids magazine
  2. Met Jackie Chan
  3. Won an ice skating competition
  4. Danced in front of the whole school

#3. Icebreakers

This is better suited for bigger teams. One person on the team will have to be the Trivia Master.

Similar to the previous idea, everyone creates and sends in a question (or questions) based on interesting facts about themselves to the Trivia Master. Encourage creative questions to make the session a funny one!

Example:

Diyanah will never leave the house without a:

  1. Mouthwash
  2. Hair brush
  3. Lip balm
  4. Banana

#4. Knowledge Sharing

One of the challenges in a competitive workplace is that some employees might be hesitant to share their knowledge, particularly in sales environments. By utilising this customisation feature, you can apply a gamification strategy to present numbers and information, to ensure full engagement throughout.

Example:

What was the first game created for Remote Social?

  1. Trivia
  2. Bingo
  3. Who Am I?
  4. Most Likely

This flexibility can be utilised to create topic or goal oriented workplace trivia games that can be retargeted, edited, and modified at anytime. With this level of customisation, a round of Trivia can be used to present any kinds of information – which opens up endless of opportunities for you and your team.
